The history of Luxury Family Hotels
Founded in 1988 with the purchase of Woolley Grange, Luxury Family Hotels started with a clear vision: to provide hotel stays tailored to families, without compromising on comfort or luxury. Over the last 35 years, we've been on quite a journey, and we now have five hotels in our collection.
Our story starts in 1988 when Nigel Chapman purchases Woolley Grange and opens it as a hotel the following year.
Just less than a decade later, Moonfleet Manor is added to the collection.
Following the addition of Moonfleet, Fowey Hall is brought into the collection.
The Ickworth is launched as a hotel as part of the collection, bringing the total number of hotels to four.
Andrew Davis (Von Essen Hotels) purchases the Luxury Family Hotels group.
When Von Essen Hotels enter into administration, Nigel Chapman purchases the original four hotels with the addition of Thornbury Castle Hotel, The Elms Hotel, New Park Manor.
Luxury Family Hotels sells The Elms.
Ralph Trustees buy the Luxury Family Hotels Collection (with the exception of Thornbury Castle).
Fowey Hall undergoes a full refurbishment of the main house and courtyard.
Moonfleet Manor undergoes a full refurbishment of the main house.
Following successful refurbishments, Fowey Hall and Moonfleet Manor undergo expansion, opening the next chapter of our story.
