The history of Luxury Family Hotels
Our story
Founded in 1988 with the purchase of Woolley Grange, Luxury Family Hotels started with a clear vision: to provide hotel stays tailored to families, without compromising on comfort or luxury. Over the last 35 years, we've been on quite a journey, and we now have five hotels in our collection.
1988
Our story starts in 1988 when Nigel Chapman purchases Woolley Grange and opens it as a hotel the following year.
2002
The Ickworth is launched as a hotel as part of the collection, bringing the total number of hotels to four.
2006
Andrew Davis (Von Essen Hotels) purchases the Luxury Family Hotels group.
2011
When Von Essen Hotels enter into administration, Nigel Chapman purchases the original four hotels with the addition of Thornbury Castle Hotel, The Elms Hotel, New Park Manor.
2018
Luxury Family Hotels sells The Elms.
2019
Ralph Trustees buy the Luxury Family Hotels Collection (with the exception of Thornbury Castle).
2020
Fowey Hall undergoes a full refurbishment of the main house and courtyard.
2021
Moonfleet Manor undergoes a full refurbishment of the main house.
2022/23
Following successful refurbishments, Fowey Hall and Moonfleet Manor undergo expansion, opening the next chapter of our story.
