Sustainable tourism practices at our family hotels

Sustainability

Fowey Hall

We're privileged to be part of our community on the Cornish coast, which is just one reason why we're committed to conserving our surrounding landscape while providing opportunities for our friends, families and neighbours. To help us minimise the impact our operations have, we've taken the following steps:

  • We operate a water-saving policy throughout the hotel.
  • Paper waste, cardboard and glass bottles are all recycled, as is our organic waste oil.
  • We have a hotel herb garden, which supplies ingredients for our kitchen throughout the year.
  • We reduce our food miles and support local businesses wherever possible by purchasing local products.
  • Energy-saving bulbs are used throughout the hotel.
  • Hotel bedrooms feature bespoke beds and furniture made from sustainably managed or British-grown wood.
  • We’ve thought carefully about the environment when sourcing items for the hotel: blankets for the terrace are made from recycled wool, and children’s tableware is organic bamboo, recycled from the waste created in the production of chopsticks.
  • We encourage children to be interested in, and to talk about, sustainability and plastic pollution through the work of local artist, Stephanie Tudor.
  • We employ many local people from Fowey and the surrounding areas. We encourage staff to car share wherever possible – some even take the ferry!
  • We recommend days out that don’t require a car.
  • We support community events.
  • The hotel has 90% fuel-efficient boilers.
  • We have a POD electric-car charger onsite.

The Ickworth

Wherever possible, The Ickworth endeavours to minimise the impact of our business on the environment and our local community with the following practices:

  • We try to conserve energy wherever we can and carry out ongoing improvements within the hotels to reduce the amount of energy that is wasted.
  • We are continually exploring ways in which we can increase the amount of recycling that we do, so that we can help to reduce the amount of waste going into landfill sites.

New Park Manor

As part of our commitment to providing an authentic rural escape at New Park Manor, we're committed to protecting our surroundings, as well as the wider environment and community.

  • We try to conserve energy wherever we can and we have continually improve our activity to help preserve our planet's natural resources and reduce the amount of energy that is wasted.
  • We recently installed POD electric-car chargers.

Woolley Grange

We're acutely aware of the impact that our industry can have on the environment, which is why we've introduced policies that help us to minimise this effect.
