There’s something really special about seeing a place you love begin a new chapter… especially when it’s The Ickworth.

Ahead of its reopening in May 2026, we’re sharing a first look at the refurbishment by StudioJill and it’s already full of character, warmth and those little details that make a stay feel memorable from the moment you arrive.

A fresh take on a familiar favourite

Set within 1,800 acres of Suffolk countryside, The Ickworth is being thoughtfully reimagined to feel lighter, more relaxed and beautifully in tune with family life.

The design sketches hint at what’s to come:

  • A softer, more welcoming feel across the main house
  • A mix of vintage finds and contemporary touches
  • Layers of colour, texture and playful detail throughout

It still feels unmistakably like The Ickworth, just with a new sense of ease.

Spaces designed for real family moments

From what we’ve seen so far, the focus is firmly on how families actually spend time together.

  • A more open, inviting reception to arrive into
  • Cosy corners in The Library for games and quiet moments
  • A reimagined Drawing Room with flexible seating for gathering
  • The Conservatory filled with light, perfect for everything from breakfast to relaxed suppers

Everything feels considered, but never overthought.

Bedrooms and beyond

The sketches for the bedrooms show spaces that feel calm, characterful and easy to settle into.

  • Individually styled rooms with thoughtful details
  • Bathrooms with bold patterns and beautiful finishes
  • Private spaces like The Dower House and Butler’s Lodge, ideal for longer stays or big family get-togethers

A little more to look forward to

There’s plenty still to be revealed, but a few highlights are already taking shape:

  • A new Elemis spa with indoor pool and garden steam room
  • Outdoor wellness spaces including a sauna and hot tub
  • Refreshed family areas, including the much-loved Four Bears Den

What stands out most is how everything still centres around the same idea: giving families the space to properly switch off and enjoy time together.
