Halloween isn’t just about the spooky and scary—it’s a chance to unleash your creativity! Why not swap out the fright for a little delight with your pumpkin carving this year?

Whether you’re a scare-lover or just in it for the fun, we’re sharing our top  tips and tricks to help you craft the perfect pumpkin! From pretty designs that’ll dazzle your trick-or-treaters to playful shapes, let’s roll up our sleeves and dive into the pumpkin patch fun.

How to prepare your pumpkin ready to carve or paint

Carving

  1. Clean the pumpkin.
  2. Cut the lid into the top of the pumpkin, with space for your hand to fit in (remember to be safe) keep the lid for later.
  3. Scoop the seeds and pulp out with a spoon.
  4. Draw your design on and get carving!

Painting 

  1. Clean the pumpkin.
  2. Paint the pumpkin with a solid colour all over as a base, this helps with designs showing up.
  3. Draw your design on and get paining!

 

Carving Tips

  • Set Up Your Workspace: Find a sturdy surface and cover it with newspapers to make clean-up a breeze.
  • Draw the Lid: Sketch a circle on top of the pumpkin to guide your cut for a cleaner edge.
  • Cut from the Bottom: Consider cutting the bottom instead of the top! It makes adding a candle inside easier for that spooky glow.
  • Scoop Out the Seeds: Start by removing the seeds with your hands—this speeds up the process. Set aside the seeds for roasting and snacking later.
  • Get Creative with Your Design: Let your imagination run wild. If stencils help, you can find some easy and fun ones here.Or you can try print out your favourite shapes, poke holes to outline, and then draw and carve! Here are some fun ideas -
