Family experiences, Uncategorised
There comes a point on a family holiday when you realise you've outgrown the standard family room.
Maybe it's when the youngest insists on sleeping in a travel cot while the oldest suddenly seems six feet tall. Maybe it's when you're trying to squeeze a third child onto a sofa bed. Or perhaps it's simply because family life with three children takes up more space.
Not just physical space. Space to sleep, play, unwind and occasionally escape each other for five minutes.
For families of five or more, finding the right hotel room can make all the difference.
Before you've unpacked a single suitcase, somebody has claimed the top bunk.
There are negotiations, swaps and the inevitable debate over who gets which side of the room. While parents are still carrying bags in from the car, children are already opening cupboards, peeking into bathrooms and deciding where their favourite teddy will sleep.
For many children, sharing a room is part of the holiday. The late-night whispering. The torch hidden under the duvet. The laughter that continues long after lights out. It's often the part they talk about just as much as the swimming pool.
One of the reasons families love two-bedroom family suites is that they give everyone a little more breathing room.
Children can share a room together while parents have a bedroom of their own. There is space to spread out, read a book, watch a film or simply enjoy a quiet cup of tea once little ones are asleep.
For larger families, two-bedroom hotel suites often feel less like a hotel room and more like having a home for a few days.
Someone has had a bad dream. Someone else has wriggled in before sunrise. Despite booking enough beds for everyone, you'll probably still all end up squeezed into one. It isn't particularly comfortable, but it's often one of those memories you'll miss most.
Family holidays change as children grow. The bunk beds lose some of their appeal and a little independence becomes more important. That's where interconnecting hotel rooms can work brilliantly.
Parents have their own ensuite room. Children have a room next door with their own space. Everyone is close enough to feel connected, but with a little more privacy and a lot less arguing over bathroom time.
For families travelling with older children or teenagers, interconnecting rooms often strike exactly the right balance.
Practical things matter, like enough beds, storage and bathrooms. But so do the moments that make family holidays memorable, sharing bunk beds, rainy afternoon games, films before dinner and everyone somehow ending up together for an early morning cuddle.
What hotel room is best for a family of 5?
Two-bedroom family suites are often the most comfortable option for families of five, offering separate sleeping areas while keeping everyone together.
Are interconnecting rooms suitable for families?
Yes. Interconnecting rooms work particularly well for families with older children who would like a little more independence while remaining close to their parents.
Can three children share a hotel room?
Many family suites are designed specifically for three children, often with bunk beds, sofa beds or dedicated children's sleeping areas.
