Cornwall is home to numerous attractions, including National Trust estates and world-renowned gardens, it’s a popular destination for families and couples looking for outdoor adventure, culture, and fun. Our team is often asked where to go and what to do by people visiting and while it is incredibly difficult to condense this beautiful place into just a few days, there are always a few firm favourites that we say are not to be missed.
Our Team shared their top 6 not to be missed things to do while staying at Fowey Hall.
The Lost Gardens of Heligan
The Lost Gardens of Heligan are a wonderful day out with lots to do for all the family. Highlights include the woodland walk, rope bridge, playground, formal gardens, and farm animals.
Fowey Town
The local town is nestled on the banks of the River Fowey and is famous for its sailing regattas. While you’re here, explore the town’s narrow streets, quaint shops - including local fudge makers, Cornish pasties shops and not forgetting the all-important ice cream shop! For those looking to adventure, you can hire a boat from the harbour and take in the stunning coastline.
The Eden Project
The Eden Project is a world-famous attraction, it’s a 15-minute drive from the hotel. A fascinating attraction that showcases the diversity of plant life from around the world, it’s where you’ll find the world’s largest indoor rainforest. With two huge biomes to explore, a trip here is guaranteed to inspire
Take a Ferry Trip to Polruan
Walk down the hill to Fowey Quay or at low tide walk to Whitehouse Quay – the ferry leaves every 15 minutes. Once at Polruan, walk up a few steps and along West Street to the block house or Polruan castle for a great photo with Fowey and the hotel in the background! Walk up Battery Lane and check out the viewpoint at the mouth of the estuary.
Lanhydrock House and Gardens
Lanhydrock House is a National Trust country house and estate a short drive from the hotel. You can discover Victorian life: from a glimpse into life ‘below stairs’, to the luxurious areas, such as elegant dining rooms and spacious bedrooms which reveal the comforts of ‘upstairs’ living. You can stroll around the gardens and enjoy their year-round colour.
Enjoy a walk along the coastal path to Menabilly
Walk down to Readymoney cove and follow the coastal path to St Catherine's Castle, which is a great photo opportunity! After a few hills you will come to a beautiful beach known as Polridmonth or Menabilly. Once you have taken in the beautiful surroundings and explored the rock pools head up the steps away from the beach. Once you reach the car park, just keep an eye for the signs directing you back to Fowey.
