National Pet Day falls on the 11th of April and at Luxury Family Hotels we know that pets are very important members of the family. We wanted to take some time to appreciate all the wonderful pets in our lives and at our hotels. Here, we introduce all the pets at our hotels and give you an insight into their lives as part of our team.
Woolley Grange near Bath
The hotel has two resident rabbits, Bella and Lilly - these rabbits are looked after by the Den team who bring them food and water daily. They are quiet bunnies and spend their days lazing around in the sun and nibbling on fresh veggies from the Walled Garden.
You might also be lucky enough to spot their small flock of Indian Runner Ducks who love to have a splash in their bath and run around the Walled Garden. Indian Runner Ducks are a special bread of ducks who run in a line after each other, which can be fun to watch. They are not the most social of animals and like to hide in hard-to-spot places- see if you can find them if you are visiting.
The hotel is also home to a flock of different varieties of chickens and a rooster. The chickens are very friendly and like to say hello to all visitors. The rooster isn't very good at timekeeping and crows at various times of the day, he also wants to call out if you cluck at him.
New Park Manor, New Forest
New Park Manor has two resident pet rabbits that are cared for by the staff. Bertha and Florence are entertaining, affectionate, and well-loved team members at New Park Manor.
Florence is a Dwarf Lop Rabbit. Florence has calm and gentle nature and enjoys spending lots of time outdoors exploring her estate and saying hello to her neighbour Bertha.
Bertha is Giant Continental Rabbit, who will be three later this year. She is very friendly and energetic. The largest recorded Giant Coninental rabbit is 132cm long, Bertha is 96cm long, although it is worth noting that her ears alone are a huge 31cm in length!
Moonfleet Manor on the Jurassic Coast
For a number of years, Snoopy was the resident pooch at Moonfleet Manor. He is almost 15 now and is retired from hotel life, but still lives in Dorset with one of the team from the hotel. He enjoys his daily walks and catching up with his old colleagues when he can.
If you head over to the Four Bears Den at Moonfleet you will meet Bugs and Lola, brother and sister rabbits, who are two years old. They are a little shy sometimes but love spending their days running around their enclosure and eating tasty dandelions.
The Four Bears Den at Moonfleet is also home to Buzz, the guinea pig. He joined the team five years ago and loves meeting all the children who visit.
The Ickworth in Bury St Edmonds
The Ickworth has two very im-paw-tant members of staff, Peaches and Mila. These lovely cockapoos belong to Luxury Family Hotels Operations Director, Faye, but very much think of The Ickworth as home. Mila is 11 and Peaches is 6. They enjoy being at The Ickworth and spotting all the local wildlife including squirrels and deer. When they are not out on long walks around the 1800-acre estate they enjoy meeting children in The Den, especially when it is time for bedtime stories.
Fowey Hall in Cornwall
At Fowey Hall, you can meet the very lovely lop-eared rabbit, Viridi. She was a rescue rabbit that the hotel took on a number of years ago. She is a beautiful brown colour and enjoys her daily cuddles with the team as well as some tasty vegetable treats like carrot tops.
We are going to be adding some new animals to the Luxury Family Hotels pet family later this year, we will be sharing news on the new additions in the coming months.
