Food & drink
Don’t know about you, but we LOVE a good Sunday roast. Perfectly cooked meats, delicious crispy potatoes, perfectly steamed veg, lashings of gravy– what’s not to love?
It’s a sure favourite here at Luxury Family Hotels and, in fact, across the UK. Beyond the British Isles, you’ll find the tradition of the Sunday lunch has reached a wide range of English-speaking countries like Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the US, and South Africa.
Of course, everyone does it a little differently, but nothing beats a proper English roast.
This wonderful, often family-oriented tradition began up in Yorkshire here in the UK. Its history dates all the way back to the 1700s. Families would put a lovely joint of meat in the oven on a Sunday morning before church and come home afterwards, prepare the rest of the food, and tuck into a delicious family meal.
And the juices from the meat were used to make a stock or gravy to flavour the entire dish.
Access to meat was far less at that time, hundreds of years before industrial farming and supermarkets became the norm. So, a Sunday roast was often seen as a treat, particularly among working-class families.
Whether you’re heading down to the Cornish coast, west to Wiltshire, or squirrelling away in the New Forest, Sunday lunch is a staple at all of our hotels.
Relax and enjoy some us time, just the two of you over a delicious roast dinner and a glass of wine. Or come as a whole family, swapping stories about your week, sharing laughs, and enjoying a wonderful lunch experience together. There’s no better opportunity for quality together time than Sunday lunch in the beautiful surroundings of the English countryside and coastline.
Those under 8yrs can join our den team from 3 – 4.30pm (let us know when you make your booking, spaces are subject to availability)
We also have a film screening (unsupervised) for older kids to keep them entertained and relieve them of any babysitting duties.
We believe in the power of locally sourced ingredients across all of our hotels. We grow veg on our own land and work with local farmers to get the best of the best for our Sunday dinner table.
The farmers we work with are well-versed in sustainable farming techniques, so we can all do our little bit to help.
A selection of wines, soft drinks, and hot beverages are available. May we recommend the Sapling Vodka and The Pickle House tomato juice? They pair together to make the perfect bloody mary.
And what’s more, Sapling plant a tree for every bottle of vodka we purchase. It’s the little things that go a long way.
Sunday lunch is served from 12noon - 3pm at all of our hotels.
Lunch is £25 per person for two courses, with an extra course for £6
Children dine for £15 (3 courses)
